1222091 2011-08-10 02:50:00 I don't think battery electric is viable myself, the electricity still needs to be generated to charge them and most of the electricity in the world is still produced by burning coal.

its the same with any car alternative power source.
fuels cells, hydrogen, batts etc etc : the energy has to come from some where (burning coal )
Fossil fuel currently is the main source of hydrogen production , so that wont solve any issues . hydrogen is too inefficient to get from water (needs lots of electricity)
fuel cells, that power still has to come from somewhere
solar power just not viable ,especially in NZ at the moment :-)

Best bet would be to make very very small, light, all plastic cars . Thats only an option when all cars are the same size . Cant have tiny plastic cars sharing roads with big gas guzzlers, just too dangerous.

1222093 2011-08-10 07:22:00 The catalytic converters on the horse drawn vehicles were notoriously ineffective, and the keen gardeners are soon sated with recycling. Not only that, the horses' job of covering the place with effluent is now efficiently carried out by politicos. Unfortunately it is easier to retrain the horses to become jugglers than to teach politicos to stop spreading stuff about. ;) R2x1 (4628)

In a 100 years it will all be sorted, just that none of us will be here to enjoy it.

I think these Swiss Post are using horse drawn carriages still. They have a bit of trouble with the horses getting my stuff across the water to NZ :punk :punk
Just look at the Swiss Guard, I think they pre-date horses

Have you ever driven from Auckland to Dunedin in one of those cars, if you had, you would soon change your mind.
