1247617 2011-12-07 10:43:00 i recently got a new phone on telecom's XT network( nokia c5-03) and after setting it up had a look at the ovi maps app on it.

i've read that it is free but does it use cellphone data/credit to function???, i think it doesnt but wonder if anyone else has used to this to any great degree???

thanks

1247618 2011-12-07 10:50:00 Doesn't use any money at all. Use the Ovi software to load more countries and voice assist like a UK Female

Bring up the main applications screen and go into settings. Go into positioning and then methods I think. Untick everything other than Integrated GPS and WIFI.

Do not use Network Based or A-GPS cos that will cost you. It may not ask you and just debit your account :p

1247620 2011-12-07 19:46:00 the options were assisted gps, intergrated gps, bluetooth gps and network based.

i've unticked everything except "Intergrated GPS", so i should be all good now???

Okay. I cannot recall if mine had WIFI either ...
Yeah just Integrated GPS.

A-GPS requires 3G data.
Network based - requires some data. I saw something like 8c for the few times I used it on mine.
Bluetooth GPS is a external device where the receiver is larger which gives you quicker location lock on times. Ie., clipped to your belt or your bag. This has to be bought but has no data costs....

Edit/
Your model don't happen to have WLAN in the list do you? That works with Wifi. But rather pointless in my opinion when you are out with GPS .. Works at home for us for a bit of playing around .......

1247622 2011-12-08 00:38:00 I recall that my 2 Degree's usage online, the 8c per day on avg - re: Network Based. They listed it as GPRS. Not as reliable in terms of accuracy but useful nevertheless :) Nomad (952)
