1467778 2020-04-01 06:06:00 1) Will the COVID-19 virus spell the end of all globalisation? And a full-scale move to nationalism and protectionism?
2) Or just the end of rampant globalisation? Ie just less globalisation?
3) Or will things just return to normal in 3, 4 or 5 years?

1467781 2020-04-01 19:33:00 Not so about China.....they're probably not selling much at the moment.
Except to Sweden..........LOL.

Life will resume, who remembers the 1918 flu? Didn't end anything did it. They held another war not long after.

Do we want to spend $100 on a cheap pair of shoes, instead of $20 (or even $10)
$80 for a cheap pair of jeans, instead of $20,
5x the price for a TV, 25% more for your car, 100% more for a used car .
Those who remember when NZ was a protected economy dont want the consequences of going back to 1970's

Same with the US & Aus.
Look at what USSR was like for the av person when it was 100% protectionist economy .

My mum is telling me stories of Hungary.
She didn't leave so much cause of the Germans, or the Russians.

Germans turned up, shot the pig, ate that, shot the dogs, ate them, dragged her dad off to fight, by threatening to round up the family, he ended up in a Gulag.
Then the russians came.
But the economy was crap then, then after, before she left, her mum went back to the country, kept rabbits, geese, another pig and so on. They made everything, bread - with wild yeasts...soap, etc.
Inflation was insane, the $100,000, 000 notes and so on.
She said you'd line up, get a cabbage and half a loaf...until it ran out, those at back of queue got nothing.

Cause the difference between a dictatorship and socialist theory is a mile apart...but yeah, it wasn't fun for her.

Her dad got let out after 10 years, he died not long after making it back home (mostly on foot).
She hates the russians with a passion.

She says the effects of the lockdown are going to last a long time.......

Guess that's better than all the school kids being forced to learn Maori in school.

I cant see the harm in learning Maori at primary school

After that its too late , the kids wont want to learn and will resist & resent it.
When my intermediate & High school forced us to learn another language, most of us put no effort in & was 100% a waste of time
I learnt(remembered) 1 French word from Intermediate, 2 Indonesian words from High school.
Better off spending that time to learn something usefull.
