| 1468299 | 2020-04-22 03:40:00 | As has been said before....up and down like a whores drawers. This and other similar comments are fair enough, but no-one has addressed my original point. I have always accessed this forum via 'www.pcworld.co.nz', then clicked on the Press F1 link on the home page. Now this site opens as PC World from IDG and there is no Press F1 link. Now I get here by going to pressf1.pcworld.co.nz/.... No doubt this is the URL that was called from the press f1 link on the original pcworld.co.nz home page and is no longer there. Anyone who had bookmarked the 'pressf1.pcworld.co.nz' address may not notice the difference, but some of us dumb bunnies are easily confused. |

Just tried it from a browser that's never been to this forum, www.pressf1.co.nz and it went directly to the forum page. I suspect that when it plays up  ( to often really) the redirection links may fall flat on their faces as well. Trust me ( he says with a grin - LOL) Its not you that's having problems, its the site and the way its falling down every so often :) |

You have misread my post, the address I have always used to access this forum is www.pcworld.co.nz This opened the NZ PCWorld home page and carried a link to PressF1 at the top. Now the same address opens a page headed PCWorld from IDG, and there is no link to PressF1. That is the problem I encountered and it has appeared only in the last couple of days. Of course, the matter is academic since I am still able to access this forum using www.pressf1.co.nz, but I am curious about the changed behaviour of www.pcworld.co.nz |

| 1468302 | 2020-04-22 21:06:00 | I have set up a new forum, and I have had lots of similar problems It is incerdibly hard for myself as what I call intermediate level There is a lot to learn about running a site on a webhost, especially if you move your email servers, or your domain name host or if you upgrade from shared server to the next level Each time you risk your members having access denied. And "propogating" new DNS servers can take 48 hours. But you'd think that PCWorld would have more technical knowledge and money than me. |

I use this url, on occasion when it has been playing up I'd go pcworld first, then click the pressf1 link. Sometimes that worked. Sometimes not. I see the top right pressf1 doesn't show, but if you enter it into the search box, you get the link still. |

I didn't want to make a Big Deal out of this, but in view of the problems with Press F1 over the last few months I wondered if the re-jigging of the pcworld.co.nz home page indicated a move to cut Press F1 loose. That would be a pity. |

Personally I never go to pcworld, like the magazine its so full none important articles I find it boring. I have a link (bookmark) for the forum, and if I do ever manually type it in its always pressf1.co.nz The actual site has been playing up for ages now, seems they are not in to much of a hurry to fix it. There have been other posts relating to this, and IDG have said they have no intention of shutting it down. |
