1248769 2011-12-15 07:23:00 Hi guys,

So I got the HD6870 today, looks slick, only problem is that it doesn't seem to wanna play nice.
Fire up any sort of game or trying to refresh the Windows Experience Index and the driver crashes.

I've grabbed the latest drivers, removed the old ones, then installed the new ones. Win7 Installation is only about 3 weeks old.

I've got a Coolermaster 460watt PSU powering that (Using both the two GPU Power Connectors) and an OCZ Agility3 SSD. Nothing else. Could be it?
Could be the temperature of the GPU, it seems to be running pretty damn hot?!

Fully updated windows. Not overclocking. Any ideas?

1248770 2011-12-15 07:25:00 Cant help but wonder if its reporting the GPU temperature wrong coz I shut it down (It's been on for about 45 minutes), fired it back up, and it was higher than ever. Manually forced the fan speed (Was on Auto) up from aroudn 70% to 100% and still no improvement:

1248771 2011-12-15 07:29:00 So 11.12 is installed?? Those just came out. Strange things used to happen, when I installed the ATI drivers as well. They crashed. And video corruption. I thought the card was the prob. But since Ive reinstalled Win7, and I'm using the Windows drivers, it hasnt happened again. Wouldnt be surprised if the SSD is the cause. I've read OCZ SSD's arent reliable. And can cause probs. And they can also cause crashes. Is the latest fw on the SSD? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1248772 2011-12-15 07:32:00 Try something older perhaps? 11.10? Chilling_Silence (9)
1248773 2011-12-15 07:36:00 I think 11.10 here caused my probs. Didnt install 11.11. And I had formatted / reinstalled before 11.12 came out. I've downloaded 11.12, but havent installed them yet. Windows 7 works fine without them, and the resolution is the native resolution. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1248774 2011-12-15 07:41:00 Might try removing them all then installing from Windows Update. BRB - Rebooting to remove drivers... Chilling_Silence (9)
1248775 2011-12-15 07:44:00 try putting some more grunt in the PSU -- According to the specs, 460 is not enough power.

■500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors Look under the system Requirements (www.amd.com) Under the Certified power supplies are recommended = Coolermaster GX550 is the smallest

1248776 2011-12-15 07:55:00 I'm using Win7's default drivers. The drivers it installed. Didnt install the WU drivers. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1248777 2011-12-15 07:56:00 Hmm OK trip to PBTech tomorrow perhaps :D
Still, the temperature is concerning, why on earth is it so high?! The airflow is great as you can see by the temperature of everything else...

1248778 2011-12-15 07:57:00 BTW - Without the WU drivers, it just detects it as a generic VGA 16MB card. Tried the WU drivers which failed as well as the 11.10 ones. No joy :( Chilling_Silence (9)
