1223939 2011-08-17 08:10:00 For a reason that I'll explain later, I drove down to Wellington this morning. The biggest dilemma that I'm facing now is finding a place to park my car for two to three whole days in Wellington city. Any suggestions?

1223941 2011-08-17 08:18:00 will you be using it at night, or is that 3days and nights? plod (107)
1223942 2011-08-17 08:20:00 For free parking relatively close to the city - park in Holloway road.

Guess it depends which side of the city you're staying in.

1223943 2011-08-17 08:26:00 3 days and 3 nights, preferably. If I can park my car overnight (to start with) today, that would be great.

1223945 2011-08-17 11:36:00 Nomad Backpackers is an option.

If you are looking for a nice backpackers, YHA Wellington is rated highly. Across the road from New World near Courtenay Place, that area is also more lifelier.

If you are wanting carparks the accom does not provide complimentary. The city area and neighouring areas have coupon parking zones.

Oh you're looking for carpark.
Further away but the Westpac stadium area can be more affordable. Or just across the road which may cost more but they should have package deals. That is Michael Fowler Centre parking - 1 block down and across the road. Also the indoors James Smiths parking I think (next to the Amora Hotel) 1 block down from Nomads.

Cheaper carparks just don't ring a bell I am afraid in that area. There is The Terrace near the motorway, the stadium like I said.

Weekend or weekday parking

1223946 2011-08-18 06:13:00 in that area there is really no where for cheaper slots.

you could walk 20-30mins to oriental parade and park there they have some 2hr free parks and at night they might not ticket you. or maybe park in haitaitai before the tunnel (basin reserve) for free at the residential places or up the hill at Karori. maybe bus in  along that area you can't even get residential coupon parking. it's all city. you're just one block from coutenary place. it's like asking for a carpark on Queens Street :D

1223947 2011-08-18 08:21:00 Norway St, Aro Valley is free parking at all times. That is not too far from Wakefield St - not out of the question, at least. george12 (7)
1223948 2011-09-11 02:32:00 Oops, just realised that I forgot to include the background story:

My flight was due to depart at 5.30pm on 16th of August from Napier to Wellington. Unfortunately, the ice blast was at its peak at that time and the flight was cancelled at the last minute. As I was desperate to get to Wellington (I had training session the next day), I decided to drive down to the capital city. Halfway through the journey, I decided to put up a night at Palmerston North as the snowfall (it was my first snow experience too) was too intense from the point southwards. Woke up next morning at 5.45am and continued the journey to Wellington unscathed.

I think the most dangerous part of the journey was driving along the gorge with barely any visibility (even on high beam) and heavy snowfall.
