2011-08-16 03:14:00 | I'm leaning towards a tablet at the moment, but which one? Noel leeming have the Toshiba Thrive and Galaxy Tab 10.1 for $800 and the Motorola Xoom is $1149 at Telecom. The Thrive has SD, USB and HDMI support but is almost twice as thick. I've read through reviews from them all and they seem quite similar. Has anyone used either of these 3 or any other tablets? What are your thoughts on them? On the other hand, would a netbook be better? I'm mainly going to use it at school (and uni next year) so anyone have any reccomendations? I've put on a poll too, so... tablet or netbook?

2011-08-16 03:17:00 | I've had a play with the Xoom and the Iconia. Get the Iconia 501. Hands down :D You can also touchtype quite quickly, I was smashing out around 40wpm on the touchscreen. Doesn't take much to get used to, and in some cases the keys are bigger than a Netbook.

2011-08-16 03:38:00 | techcrunch.com Point #3 mainly Edit: You've listed the A500 which has no 3G. The A501 is a 3G version. pbtech.co.nz

2011-08-16 03:47:00 | I would say if your going to be throwing it around in your bag at uni then the netbook as it has a lid | gary67 (56) | |
2011-08-16 03:48:00 | Ah, only looking at the Wifi model, I can tether it to my phone :D Post #3 talks about USB input and microSD input. The thrive has these plus full size HDMI, and I'm unsure if I like the look of the acer as much. I'm looking at easy lease through mum and dads business so I can upgrade after 9 months and claim GST and tax back on it so would have to see if noel leeming can match the $649 at PB and still do easy lease. If they don't match it I'm still tossed up between the Thrive and Iconia, I played round with both today and I liked the rubber back and how sturdy the thrive felt. The Galaxy Tab comes out on 25th August there so I might wait for that, although it doesn't have any inputs like the Thrive and Iconia. Watching some videos on youtube now, has 3.1 been released for the Iconia yet? Both look similar in terms of software (they both run honeycomb) so that's neither here nor there. Edit: My galaxy sII supports almost all video formats out of the box, would the tablets be the same? From the reading I've done so far it seems the Xoom has excellent multimedia playback. If not is there an app avalible which would play them?

Especially the battery life and screen. I'm quite tempted by it... espeically the price. Is it avalible anywhere else in NZ? I've never bought from Expansys before. |

2011-08-16 04:04:00 | PlayTech should be able to get the TF101 and it's dock, if they don't have them in stock. The price in your link looks to be without dock, to me, I think it's about $1k with it. | inphinity (7274) | |
