1222965 2011-08-14 04:45:00 That is a very sad loss. He was a unifier rather than a divider. Strong on principles, and a true gentleman. A great loss to all, but especially his whānau of course. John H (8)

1222967 2011-08-14 06:54:00 He was OK, but the media is harping on about his maoris aspects.
Like if we had a White European governor general who has died imagine the fireworks if they said this GG worked hard to help White people in NZ.

Harping? Not. Maori will always be referred to NZ. Why not? Remember when PM Big Norm died back in 74? He was missed by both Maori and Pakeha. If you are a generational New Zealander, I dont think white would be used by today's media in NZ for a Pakeha GG's death.

1222972 2011-08-15 01:24:00 How? Why?

I came here as an Englishman, and any respect I might get I would Like to earn, where as maori seem to expect respect by virtue of being a maori, which I don't agree with.

1222973 2011-08-15 01:36:00 Actually, this thread is about a great leader and statesman who has passed away.

You (prefect and Cicero) could show a bit of respect yourself instead of wittering away about hard done by you think you and your fellow whities happen to be.
