Funny that you actually opened the attachment even though you were not expecting a parcel and didnt know who it was from?

1222802 2011-08-12 10:03:00 I get plenty too. Nobody sends me DHL, UPS or FEDEX packages that I don't already know about, so before I delete them from Telecom's server, I usually take a quick look at the header in Mailwasher and sure as eggs there'll be a telltale .zip file present.

I am surprised that Mailwasher is not more widely used, because it is easy as to set up, it is low overhead and simple to use. Nothing gets downloaded unless you either specifically approve it, or it is a known source that you have already OKds.

Crap like that doesn't even get near your computer.

Cheers

1222803 2011-08-12 10:37:00 Started getting mail from DHL and fedex after i listed items on TradeMe,
then got mail saying my Visa card had been declined, after that is mail saying that so and so is online.

:D. No I didn't actually. I've heard of the scam before so I didn't open it. I tore the email and zip code apart though. Lots of fun.

1222805 2011-08-12 22:54:00 +100 for Mailwasher.

Comes in both free and paid versions. The free version is almost identical to the paid version but has a bigger tool bar across the top. Paids version used to be a donation, not sure if it is still a donation or a fixed fee.

As you get mail in, you in effect white list those people that you will accept mail from, mailing lists etc, and then blacklist one on one names which have common domain names like gmail, eg, freelotto@gmail or block complete domain names like freemeds@freemeds.....

Doesn't take long and you will be spending only a few seconds to glance over the mail showing in Mailwasher, F6 to process and then open your mail client and download whats left.

You just need to untick any options in your mail client to check for mail every 10 minutes or what ever.

1222806 2011-08-13 01:27:00 I used to get a lot of those UPS and DHL viruses, but haven't had one for a long time.

Recently it's just been people from Africa with large bank balances they need to send to me.

Of course if you ARE getting something sent via UPS I think the question would not be when it would arrive but would it arrive in one piece?.....
