| 1223369 | 2011-08-16 07:32:00 | It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? Secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends, brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and fix UP the old car. Actually, I don't call up, I just call. And Clean and lock. Without any ups. But it's because: up adv \ˈəp\ 1 : in or into a higher position or level; especially : in or into an upright position < 2: with greater intensity <speak up> 3 : in or into a better or more advanced state 4: into existence, evidence, prominence, or prevalence 5: into possession or custody 6 : entirely, completely <button up your coat> 7: in or into storage : by <lay up supplies> 8 : so as to arrive or approach b 9: in or into parts 10: to a stop 11: for each side <the score is 15 up> |

| 1223371 | 2011-08-19 10:20:00 | Sorry, a bit late, but just came across this one and had to share it; I asked a friend's daughter what she wanted to be when she grows up . She said she wanted to be Prime Minister someday . Both her parents, Labour, were standing there, so I asked her, " If you were Prime Minister what would be the first thing you would do? " She replied, " I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people . " Her parents beamed, and said, " Welcome to the Labour Party! " " Wow . . . what a worthy goal! " I told her . I continued, " But you don't have to wait until you're Prime Minister to do that . You can come over to my house, mow the lawn, pull weeds, sweep my drive and I'll pay you $25 . Then I'll take you over to the shop where the homeless guy sits outside . You can give him the $25 to use toward food . " She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, " Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work and you can just pay him the $25? " I smiled and said, " Welcome to the National Party . " Her parents still aren't speaking to me . |
