Unless they have 4WD vehicles .... oh, wait. That's why everyone in Auckland has them!!! Because of all the snow!!! (Disclaimer: I own a Honda CRV - because the family goes skiing) |

When I leave the top carpark at Whakapapa after having been sitting there for a week (with snow falling), my CRV is one of the few 4WDs that don't need a tow to get over the lump of snow/ice that has built up over that time . But I see Prados and Range Rovers and Land Rovers that all need an initial pull from an RAL vehicle . . . . Because they are all too heavy and/or their tyres too wide to get a grip on the ice . I just pop it into 1 or 2 and drive straight out . Laughing and pointing at the 'real' 4WDs, usually . . . :D (Mine's a late 2003 model - 2 . 4L engine) |

As in it's not a gas guzzling monster. Unlike the Audi Q6 etc... I reckon your success comes down to the good driver. :p I took the parents 4wd estima van to the ski field many times, didn't put chains on it even when I was supposed to and always got up fine. All the townies in their prados and pajeros were slithering all over the show. You gotta know how to drive on the ice. :D |
