There are some people of European descent who do object to the term pakeha. There are others who embrace the term. I was born in New Zealand and am of European descent. I feel that the term pakeha is a more accurate description of my origins. I am a New Zealander first and a pakeha second. They same would apply to a Maori - he is a New Zealander first and a Maori second.

Reeves was an ok bloke but since I am a vehement anti christian he never figured in my hero list.

And which myth do you subscribe to about what Pākehā means then? As I have pointed out before on this forum, the word does not have a negative meaning . None of those negative so-called 'meanings' have any basis in fact .

Get over it . You can say any word with a snigger . The way most Pākehā pronounce 'Māori' is way more offensive .

Fair enough, but he never pushed Christianity down anyone's throat . As far as I am concerned, it was what he did after stepping down as Archbishop that made him a top bloke in my eyes . Standing up to the failed pig farmer Douglas and his cronies for example . And in doing that, he was fighting for all of us, not just Māori .

I agree with Ken, I think Sir Paul Reeves was "a good bloke"

You (prefect and Cicero) could show a bit of respect yourself instead of wittering away about hard done by you think you and your fellow whities happen to be .

Ah, I didn't realise you were one of those John, which goes to show there are some decent maoris out ther, knowing what a good chap you are .
