1248985 2011-12-16 21:14:00 Hey there folks,

My PC suddenly decided to crash so, after much hassle, decided to do a clean reinstallation of windows 7 premium 64bit .

However, on a CLEAN installation, it just locked up on me! Oh the frustration . I then attempted to run Chkdisk upon booting, but twice now Chkdisk has froze on me .

Am I correct in assuming that my Hard Drive is on the blink? Or is there another possible reason? I think this because it's not running anything but chkdisk - it's not even in windows safe mode .

Is there a more robust tool I can run to accomplish the same thing as chckdisk? Something on the ultimate boot cd for example, that will hopefully fix any bad sectors and/or file errors .

The ironic thing is, the PC was crashing not too long ago and it turned out to be a faulty motherboard, which has now been replaced . Everything worked fine for about 2 months until now .

Help!

I have tried it and it is booting now. Will let you know if (hopefully not when) it does or does not crash.

1248988 2011-12-16 21:29:00 Sweet, hmm, if changing ports works, it sounds like a stuffed SATA port (or the one it was on maybe for optical devices), not hdd's. Some mobos do have ports for hdds and cd's/dvds. And they do have to be plugged into the right port, to work Speedy Gonzales (78)
