1224486 2011-08-22 00:32:00 I agree with that. Many people don't even need a car maybe apart from going to the supermarket and et al. 8yr ago as a student. For breakie it was 1 box of cereals and a loaf of bread and a spread or two. Lunch could of been some cold cuts, the same loaf as before and some meslum leafs and maybe soup. Whatever fruits on special. Buy meat on special for dindin. 2 drumsticks or a thigh or a pack of mince that lasts 4 meals, rice or pasta. Then you have the laundry and kitchen stuff for cleaning...

When I did live in a Halls of Residence. We didn't get steak every week, maybe each month. Each Friday we had fish and chips. We had a lot of stirfrys or casseroles. Lunch was mainly bread and cold cuts or baked potato, or macaroni cheese. Brekkie was cereals and bread and maybe the odd crumpet and spreads.

1224487 2011-08-22 00:32:00 Yes. I know a few people like that. They worked, well, at least one in the family.

Unbelievably stupid.
It's the credit age - want a big TV like on the ads - time payment.

I know one lot of idiots who had a fairly modern Honda van. They then traded it in and got another one of the same thing - but newer. It cost another $15000 after the tradein and they put it on payments for 5 years. They also took "death insurance" on it from the car finance people because "they had to".

Why get another?

Because the rego and WOF were due on the old one and they didn't have the money for it.

Seriously.

I think there should be compulsory budget classes in schools.

Because money is so easy to get from finance companies/banks, it used to be a $1.00 deposit for a motor vehicle and finance company for the rest, that's where my wife lost her money in a "as solid as" company.

Like the Yanks again banks were giving 100% finance for house loans, Clinton was giving 110% to the under priveledged, so what do they expect.

Lurking.

1224488 2011-08-22 01:32:00 About 15 years ago I was on the dole on a limited income. The choice I made was that the two things I needed most were food and shelter so these took priority. .

Regardless of benefits, being on limited income, I prioritise as follows:
Mortgage
Rates
Insurance (House and car - contents last)
Power
Phone/Net
regos/WOFs
Petrol
Pets
Food
Anything else. (There are no other loans)

Often the income stops at or after petrol. Too bad. the first 3 come first no matter what.
