| 1225141 | 2011-08-23 05:58:00 | If you're having this procedure done in a public hospital, just ask for, or if you need to, insist, on what you want. If you want sedation, tell the the surgeon who will perform the procedure. I had a luere put into a vein in my hand and it all happened fairly quickly after that. They sprayed my throat, put a mouthpiece in my mouth (very comfortable), injected some intravenous Prozac into the luere, guided the camera down the mouthpiece into my digestive tract and it was all over in a few minutes, without pain during or afterwards. The main thing is to relax your muscles and keep breathing normally. Your body knows what to do. |

| 1225142 | 2011-08-23 07:53:00 | To those of you have had the procedure without sedation - is the spray just to stop the gag reflex? If not, how do you stop yourself gagging when it goes into your throat? I think it is to stop the gag reflex. I'm wondering though if mine was an endoscopy. Most of these posts refer to the stomach being where the camera was headed. My experience had the apparatus looking into a lung. The spray in the throat did its job and stopped any gagging, but the lung went into spasms trying to reject the foreign object on its look-see tour. I don't want to experience that massive rejection my body went into, again. :horrified |

It's when they go in from the other end you need sedation. |

Are they going into your stomach or lungs. As I said before they went into my stomach to get a gall stone out of my bial duct. Didn't get any options. They just sprayed this stuff down my throat then sedated me. Next thing I new I was back in the hospital ward. No drama. :) |

| 1225150 | 2011-08-23 11:57:00 | Yes, I've had that done, they give you a drug that keeps you fully alert and cooperative, but you have no recollection of the procedure when it wears off. I've had it for endoscopy and also for a tooth removal and jawbone preparation for an implant (repairs to car accident damage). I remember sitting down in the chair, and I remember getting out of the chair, but nothing in-between. I remember even less of the endospcopy, but the surgeon told me afterwards that the drug has the same effect as a "truth drug" (sodium pentathol?) and the medical staff have to treat the theatre like a confessional because the inhibitions go west and it all hangs out. I'd love to see his 'home' videos! Good luck, you won't remember it at all if you have sedation and it doesn't hurt until the bill arrives...... Cheers Billy 8-{) |
