1225133 2011-08-23 02:39:00 Hi all

Got to have an endoscopy done ... camera down throat ... and just wondering whether anyone else has had the same procedure done ??

They give two options :-

1) Throat spray to numb throat & relax vocal chords .. or
2) Sedation ... which I am liking the sound of more & more

Any thoughts ??

I had the above done 3 times. First time was sedation - that's great - but I could not drive back myself. 2nd time was option 1 - without sedation -- was a terrible experience. 3rd time was again, without sedation because the doctor who performed the endoscopy convinced me that it's going to be OK as there was nobody to drive me home after that.

Conclusion: My 3rd experience was really not too bad as the doctor has better skill and more gentle. Personally, from my 3 previous experiences, I would recommend the first option - i.e. without sedation. I had my last procedure done just over a month ago in Middlemore Hospital.

1225134 2011-08-23 02:41:00 Had both a couple of years ago to remove a gall stone from a bial duct. The spray stuff tastes like bananas. Got a photo to prove it if anyone is interested.

Sounds good to me.

May pay to address the Speights and Glenfiddich first in case the sedation ruins things. ;)

1225139 2011-08-23 04:23:00 To those of you have had the procedure without sedation - is the spray just to stop the gag reflex? If not, how do you stop yourself gagging when it goes into your throat? John H (8)

I don't know, it just sort of happens.
