I also had dealings with Canada house in London but couldn't get a sponsor to move there and changed my mind about going also after meeting my wife who is from NZ | gary67 (56) | ||

| 1224883 | 2011-08-21 22:40:00 | There is a working holiday programme run by the Canadians for people like young Aussies and Kiwis. I think they announce the results annually after a ballot of applicants. My younger daughter and one of her friends both applied and were successful - from memory their working holiday visa was for one year. You can read about it here: www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca It may be a good way for you to check out whether you really want to live and work in Canada. Neither my daughter, nor her friend, lasted the full twelve months - they both went their separate ways to Europe and then back home. Edit - I have just had a quick look through that website, and realise my memory is faulty - the twelve months relates to the length of time you have to take up their offer after a successful application. And there is no mention that I could see on a hurried reading regarding annual decision making after a ballot. The process operates in the order in which they receive applications, and it takes several weeks to complete, depending upon the complexity of your application (e.g. if you have health or criminal record issues). Sorry if I misled you, but I still think this would be a good way to proceed, provided you fit within the age eligibility criteria for this programme. |

For me that included letters from previous employers regarding my trade, medicals, police checks etc John's suggestion might be the way to go initially as I too l know of a lot of people who think they won't to emigrate and move home again not long after, Canada is a fantastic country but in the end it was just too close to America for me. I even made it as far North as the Yukon and Alaska in my time there |

They left Sydney at the height of summer, and arrived in Canada in the depths of winter...
