1251046 2011-12-29 01:33:00 Hi all,

One of my windows XP machines has no floppy drive and I still occasionally need to boot to DOS with an ME/98 start-up floppy. Is it possible to burn the files from these floppies to a CD/DVD so I can boot to DOS with the CD/DVD? My PC can be bios-configured to select the CD/DVD drive as the first boot option.

DOS is unknown territory to me...how would I go about this?

many thanks!!

Good ol DOS commands -- fix many problems.

DOS is unknown territory to me...how would I go about this Do you know the ( or any) commands you want to use -- may be stating the obvious here, but its all command prompt, no mouse input, you have to actually type in commands to get them to do anything. Here are just a few (www.computerhope.com)

1251048 2011-12-29 03:04:00 If you just want something to boot a machine and work within it, I'd suggest something like hirens boot cd (www.hirensbootcd.org)

It has all the tools to do just about anything you would need to, and has it's own "mini xp" system which you can navigate the whole computer from.
Comes in real handy if a system wont boot for some reason etc

just download and burn the iso to disc, and then use it to boot and fix/navigate any comp at all.

Instructions here for burning (www.hirensbootcd.org) if you need them

1251052 2011-12-29 06:04:00 What are you trying to achieve as a Linux Live CD might be what you want. mikebartnz (21)
1251053 2011-12-30 06:38:00 Or maybe Dosbox might be an easier option if you want to run a DOS program. PPp (9511)
