1226582 2011-08-28 04:03:00 In the market for a new laptop at the end of the year and wondering if the HP Envy 15 is better than my current DV5 (See Sig).

Want to play games like Just Cause 2, COD at decent settings. (Cant do any of that on my current DV5.)

If you know anything similar in the same $1300 price range, please comment.

1226583 2011-08-28 06:35:00 Spec wise yes, reliability is still questionable. Look for a nice Tosh or Asus if gaming is you're thing. My workmate has a pretty nice 15" asus with 1080p screen and 2gb geforce graphics card, might be a bit out of budget though. Alex B (15479)

1226585 2011-08-28 07:00:00 Personally I'd never spend a cent on HP gear no matter how good it looks on paper.

(this post was written on an HP laptop...so WTF?)

1226587 2011-08-28 07:11:00 Gaming is going to be very little, quite like the Asus's... Just want something to last another 2 or 3 years. This ones gone for just about 3 years now. Payed $1200 for it.

I've had overheating problems with the HP but other than that it's been reliable.

HP Envy 17 3D was rated Platinum I think in the PCWORLD mag.

1226588 2011-08-28 07:19:00 Another +1 for the Asus. I dropped move the day after I bought it and it hardly noticed - that's what I call reliable :D

1226590 2011-08-28 08:39:00 Oh and is lenovo a good brand for these sort of laptops? Heard they are very good and durable.

1226591 2011-08-28 08:49:00 My understanding is their consumer stuff is so-so. Alex B (15479)
