1226592 2011-08-28 09:31:00 Another +1 for the Asus. I dropped move the day after I bought it and it hardly noticed - that's what I call reliable :D

:pf1mobmini:

Somebody that drops stuff is not what I would call reliable

1226593 2011-08-28 09:55:00 Unless you want a xxxxXM you don't need an i7. All they are are power consuming pieces of cr*p (speaking about laptops here). Unless your going for highest performance possible just get an i5, cheaper almost as fast and you'll actually get some life out of your battery. Anyway if you were going for maximum performance you would buy a desktop for half the price. icow (15313)
1226594 2011-08-28 09:55:00 I would not use any laptop for games. But that's just me. Snorkbox (15764)

1226596 2011-08-28 10:25:00 I drop stuff all the time.

And an i7 in portable format would be about 28 trillion times more useful to me then a desktop at half the price.

And it would only be more awesome if it were a games machine.

I guess that counts out crappy HP and wanky apple.

1226597 2011-08-28 11:01:00 HP Envy for 1300?
Sounds like a bargain!

It gets fairly hot though.

Although I will be ostracised for this... The Samsung QX412 is the best laptop I have ever had. For 1500$, if you can live with a 14" screen... It doesn't get all that hot, it's quiet as hell, it is pretty light and the battery lasts me 7-8 hours for normal use (inc youtube).

At max brightness, it burns my eyes, but contrast ratio isn't great and no backlit keyboard. :(

With the 520m it should be able to play COD: BO just fine (at native res). Can't speak for Just Cause.

1226598 2011-08-28 11:23:00 I know about the 'laptops are crappy at gaming', im probably going to only play at medium settings and I am happy with that. Will play a game maybe once a week so not really a 'gamer' and don't worry about the slight bit of lag. (On my current DV5, load just cause 2 onto it, lowest possible settings, move arrow key up once, 2 secs later it moves on the screen...)

Don't mind the i5 as long as it's speedy, it will do. Was thinking about the desktop, but just wont suit me.

My cousin bought a new Toshiba with dedicated AMD graphics and CPU and it ran just cause 2 great! He payed around $1400.

I would say AMD graphics are superior to NVIDIA at this stage . . . But AMD CPUs are seriously lacking in pretty much every department .

Which GPU was it?

I would have to say that statement is rubbish....in fact there really isnt anything to choose from the 2 GPU makers, NV has more raw power, but is more CPU sensitive. AMD have better bang for buck at the top end, but really they trade blows depending on the game you play.
Crossfire scaling is currently better than NV....just!

1226601 2011-08-29 04:29:00 On a desktop, sure, there's nothing between them.

On low-mid-range laptops (since he is looking for a 1300$ laptop) , AMD is superior. 6470 will beat the 520M on almost every game (although not by much), moreso if you push resolution.
