1253136 2012-01-09 11:42:00 Hi Guys, question for any MediaEspresso users out there.
Does it work with Windows XP, an i5 using onboard graphics, and an Asus P8H61 motherboard using hardware acceleration via quick sync.
I purchased this software to take advantage of quicksync and it will not allow me to enable hardware acceleration.

I asked Cyberlink but after 4 responses I'm beginning to think they just don't comprehend the question.
I thought perhaps it was either XP or the H61 chipset causing my issues but if so I thought their support would have picked that up as soon as I asked the question.
The motherboard does list quick sync on it's features page but doesn't mention it again.

I tried it on the machine in my signature and it allows me to select acceleration using cuda, but my machine began locking up randomly until I uninstalled the software.

Short summary of cyberlinks "help" Apologies, frustrated venting follows;

I list my system hardware briefly, mention that I'm running XP, and explain that hardware acceleration cannot be selected. I also mention I have updated the Video and chipset drivers.
Cyberlink - provides me with a URL to a blank search page... ?? maybe it's the FAQ or Tech support help forums? I dunno

I reply saying a blank page isn't helpful
Cyberlink - provides instructions on where to find the option to enable it... (ok maybe I'm that stupid but give me some !@$@$# credit) and ask me to take a screenshot of the error screen if the problem persists (what $!$!@# error screen the program is running fine)

I take a screenshot of the page where hardware accelration is greyed out and explain to them again I can't select it. I ask if XP supports harware acceleration
Cyberlink - Suggests I update the drivers (I start to wonder if the tech support guy even understands english), and asks for a DXdiag.txt log file (ok got my hopes up for a second, seems like something that might be useful).

I'm getting annoyed and my response isn't friendly, I ask them to read the question and send the requested DXdiag.txt file. I also list the things I have tried in a vain hope to avoid further useless suggestions.
Cyberlink - provide me with a new link and a user name and password for the full version of 6.5 (isn't that what I paid for and dowloaded already?? but ok maybe it's corrupted or something)

I cut and paste the link, only to get stuck on a webpage that won't let me exit back to the tab with the login details. I cancel and go back to the message (reading E-mail via web page). The password contains characters that might be a 1 or an I or an l in a font that doesn't show the difference so I memorise the username and cut the password to paste, then I screw up and paste the url into the password box and it doesn't work. Realising what I've done I open notepad, paste the user name and password into that, go back to the URL, carefully cut and paste the username and password, it doesn't work! It seems to add my PC name as a domain name also. As a last resort I fire up the other PC and try again using Chrome, login pop-up is different but it still doesn't work.

About to reply to Cyberlink I stop and post here instead, afraid if I respond to them now I may tell them to do something unpleasant with their software.

1253137 2012-01-11 19:27:00 So obviously no one has a solution :(

Here's an update, quote from cyberlinks latest response;

In regards to your concern,I would regret to inform you that graphic card that you are using i.e Intel(R) HD Graphics Family does not support hardware acceleration.

I would request you to please refer the link given below to know more about the supported features :

software.intel.com

I think they need to fire their entire technical support division!! Intel HD graphics don't support hardware acceleration ?? MediaEspresso is one of the few (2 I think) available products that have quick sync support, and the first entry on the table on the link they provided says
Saves valuable time for PC users who want to create and edit video, sync it to other devices, and share it — at home and on the internet. Intel® Quick Sync Video uses dedicated media processing to accelerate video encoding

I'm going to request a refund, it may or may not be great software but the technical support is completely incompetent.

1253138 2012-01-12 00:35:00 Interested, why would you be running XP with such good hardware

(Just been reading the thread on DelayedWriteFailure in particular Wainui's link. My reaction: XP has had its day)

1253139 2012-01-12 00:46:00 You'll have to install Vista or Win7. According to post #423 (forum.doom9.org).XP doesnt support QS Speedy Gonzales (78)
1253140 2012-01-12 02:22:00 Good one Speedy - the guy in the link seems to work for Intel as QS guru! BBCmicro (15761)
1253141 2012-01-12 11:36:00 Yeah I came to that same conclusion earlier today, I had been thinking it was probably that or the H61 chipset and when I couldn't find much by googling I sent the first question.
Another strike against Cyberlinks tech support, I mentioned I was using XP in the very first query to them. Any competent support guy would have picked that up immediately.
Today I was looking At DVDFab's website and saw it clearly mention quick sync requires Vista or Win 7.

As for why it's running XP the PC kinda just happened, I built a really cheap machine based on a H61 mb, pentium G620, and some RAM I got from an RMA on my games machine (I'd already replaced it so it was surplus)
Whole machine cost less that $300 because of all the spare parts I had laying around, including a spare copy of XP home that was gathering dust on the shelf.
I had intended to have a play with Linux on it but I just can't seem to get motivated to do it.

And before you say the G620 doesn't do quick sync, the story goes on. I decided my media PC with it's i5 2500 and 8GB RAM was total overkill for what I use it for so I switched the CPU and RAM with the cheapo machine, thinking it would be a great Video encoding machine. A couple of exerimental H264 encodes using Handbrake and Ripbot 264 showed me just how slow HD encoding is so that's why I purchased MediaEspresso with it's potential up to 4 times encoding speed.

The G620 with it's HD graphics handles HD video in VLC and Media player just fine, plays Blu-ray with PowerDVD easily, and plays my lossless music collection without breaking a sweat. In fact the only difference I've noticed on the Media PC is the TV tuner takes 1-2 secs to re sync when changing channels.

I'll probably update windows on it at some stage, so I can use the RAM properly and sort a few other things out (XP can't read Blu-Ray without some workarounds for example) but after this I won't be using mediaEspresso or purchasing a cyberlink product ever again. Handbrake does everything I want anyway, it's just slow.

1253142 2012-01-12 19:26:00 Looks like XP needs some kind of driver (that Vista and Win7 have for BR). You may also need HDCP complaint hardware (probably HDMI as well). So you can see something in XP Speedy Gonzales (78)
