1252735 2012-01-07 13:11:00 This is just a minor annoyance but I thought I'd ask in case someone knows how to fix it off the top of their heads.

When I play a video file in windows media player it stays linked to it somehow, so if you try to delete it even after closing media player you get an error saying it is in use. The only fix I've found is to play something else to shift media players focus so to speak.
Kinda annoying when I'm going through my Video collection deleting unwanted files, I like to play them briefly to make sure before deleting. VLC doesn't do this, but I actually prefer media player for queing up and randomly playing my music videos (it works better with windows play all button in explorer for one thing). I could never be bothered creating playlists, I just select files I want to play manually with explorer.

1252736 2012-01-07 19:19:00 I believe it's that it's trying to make thumbnails for the video files, and so the file is currently in-use.

Change the directory view to "list" or something and see if that helps :)

1252738 2012-01-07 20:41:00 Dont know if this will help or not, open media player, tools/Options/Privacy Tab - down the bottom under history untick everything (or videos in this case) where it says "store an display a list -----" wainuitech (129)
1252739 2012-01-09 01:31:00 Thanks Wainui, deleted the cache also and it seemed to work, once! After that it's back to normal.
I tried clicking the stop button before closing also, but the only hing that works is playing a different file before trying to delete something.
Never mind I can live with it. Probably should just associate everything with VLC and be done with it.

Also Wal, are you lost? speedy had no involvement in this thread so far.

1252740 2012-01-09 08:05:00 #$%^ Media Player! The most bug ridden piece of %^&* .

Try an alternative as your default media player - like VLC Media Player.
