2012-01-06 21:55:00 | Yello all, ran a scan with MWB yesterday and after updating their database, scan with results that included *.wpa files which I inadvertently ticked then ticked fix selected. After rebooting, I was asked to activate Windows XP again, as I have misplaced the serial no, somewhere safe, I'm slightly buggered now. Any idea how to fix my muck-up? Cheers

2012-01-07 00:28:00 | Does it actually ask for the product key, or just to be activated, if its only to be activated, it work by using phone activation ? Have you tried starting the computer in safe mode, and using the administrator account -- If so what happens ? Otherwise something that may work then again it may not --- try running system restore back Via command prompt 1.Boot into Safe mode with Command Prompt – Keep Pressing F8 at start-up then with the arrow keys select Safe mode with Command prompt. 2.At the command prompt, type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe Press Enter. Follow the instructions given to perform the System Restore process

2012-01-07 03:54:00 | Good its fixed again, phone activation isn't to bad, normally just a lot of number pushing :) It get s fun when talking to a MS rep, and they dont believe you when you say whats wrong or what you did, Eg. reinstalled using the COA on the case and now its saying its not valid .

2012-01-07 21:30:00 | Ned - what that could be is if your laptop had a factory install, and it was reinstalled using the factory/original COA it came with, then while it will allow you to install the OS, it wont activate. The COA as it comes from the factory is a special licence that the manufactures use, you will find the same product key is on hundreds of different computers, theres a file that the manufactures use that allows it to read as legit. What I mean by that, is lets say you buy a Compaq, Dell whatever, and run a key finder through it, you will see its not the same COA as the one thats on the case/underside of the laptop.

2012-01-07 22:00:00 | Oh it was not a factory install, factory was wiped by the original owner and a questionable copy of Vista ultimate was installed, this was removed by me when I got it and Vista business put on when I bought it, and last year I changed to ultimate, which activated, I used key finder on the laptop before I reinstalled and this is the key it said was used. | nedkelly (9059) | |
