1227738 2011-08-31 09:50:00 Telstra Clear want me to ring them tomorrow - I think I feel a copyright letter about to come my way. What will be interesting is what the hell it will be for as have not downloaded music or movies. Twelvevolts (5457)
1227739 2011-08-31 09:59:00 Unless you don't have an internet connection ... you don't have plausible deniability ... :D SP8's (9836)
1227740 2011-08-31 10:18:00 Theres going to be a few shocks for some people in the following weeks.

As it was written in the PC world (Pg 14)
infringements started counting towards notices from midnight on 11th August. This is because copyright holders were allowed 21 days to collect information so they can start issuing notices.

You can bet your boots they will already have their eyes on some people or as it is IP addresses and will be ready to start throwing their weight around.

What will be interesting is what the hell it will be for as have not downloaded music or movies. Not saying you are, but only quoting what you put --

Its not just music or movies they are targeting , it can be anything thats copyrighted, also using P2P programs to download pirated software.

As it says in the Mag -
not direct downloads or streaming video - 3 Strikes recommends that any unneeded peer-to-peer software be removed from computers ( whole article is on page 14 of the latest PCWorld)

Nothing other than the date and the fact they have never ever contacted me before.

1227743 2011-08-31 11:45:00 Well I haven't heard anything about you having to ring them to get your free copyright infringement notice, isn't it supposed to be that they would contact you? Agent_24 (57)

Let's hope so or my cat is about to become the owner of a broadband account with Paradise.

1227745 2011-08-31 14:27:00 Just been reading up on the stupid thing... seems you can potentially be accused even by doing nothing:

Insane.

1227746 2011-08-31 15:23:00 I dont think they would ask you to ring them just so they can send you a letter (if I understand what you're saying correctly), they would just send you a letter in the post.

I really cant see it all working anyway. For a start, a copyright holder has to know (by your IP address) that you have downloaded their copyrighted material, they then have to pay the ISP $25 + GST to investigate and send out a letter to the account holder of the IP. Then pay $200 to apply to the Copyright Tribunal for penalising you. So, my question is: Is U2 going to pay $25 + GST and contact your ISP (plus $200) because you download "One Tree Hill"? I doubt they would bother. Is Lucas Films going to pay $25 + GST to your ISP (plus $200) because you downloaded Starwars? I doubt that as well. Its going to get damn expensive for copyright owners if 20,000 people are downloading their content.

What a load of bollocks.
My :2cents: worth on it.

1227747 2011-08-31 20:19:00 Post the letter if you do :D

And yes, Iantech, it's pretty damn easy for them to see who has downloaded things. See my latest blog post. It takes them bugger all time and they've been doing it for YEARS now, this law just makes it easier for them to recoup some of their hard-earned money ;)
