1227768 2011-09-01 11:50:00 i think what will happen is they will just phone you and ask to speak to you..then they will flat out just tell you , we have reason to believe that you are downloading copywrite material.

im going to be so PISSED if they warn me if i DL free to air stuff. Like missed tv programs or Grand prix races , it sux...THIS LAW SUX... Even south Park did a episode on how stupid copywrite law is and how disgusting it is. But besides this, i DL 20GB's worth of games from STEAM , i pay for them. So i better not get 1 phone call, if i DL 20 GB's of stuff thats legal. The horrible thing about this law in NZ, is that NZ is so small that people will get busted easy just for DLing 1 song.

What if your at work and your kids start DLing stuff that your unawares of and then you come home and your net is disabled for 6 months...Awesome , what fun the future will be for all of us.

Definately voting in LABOUR this time around.

I do share your feelings about this stupid law. I'm 100% against this law, too.

But, do you think that Labour will change it? I doubt it. Labour, National, Act, etc., are all the same - a bunch of useless, hopeless good for nothing parasites who only care for their own pockets.

1227769 2011-09-01 12:02:00 That is where the law fails. Is this also the end to free wifi in public places?
No, but they're just going to have to ensure that they're well prepared in advanced and blocking P2P / Bittorrent traffic. It's not difficult for the technically minded.

The thing is, it's not going to stop the "real" or "serious" pirates. They will already have found ways of getting around it (which there are, and are very easy to do as well).
All I'm saying is I don't think they will enforce it very well. I'll be sure to let you guys know when I get my first warning though.

I know, the law is flawed, but they will still enforce it as much as they possibly can. A copyright holder isn't going to know the difference between a casual and a 'pro' offender. They're just going to download the same torrent from TPB / Mininova that you have, see your IP and then send you an infringement notice, just like they do for people all over the world.
It's just that now it's easier to extract money.

You should read my blog post over, and I link to the interview with Paul Brislen. Very good read :)

1227772 2011-09-01 13:07:00 Has been like that for at least 2 years now I think, they got in to major trouble for hosting illegal file torrents.
So they removed every last torrent and then started fresh with only Content Distribution.

We had a grandma here in the US who let her g'kids use her puter and the MIAA and RIAA got her hung out to the tune of (IIRC) OVER $20,000.00 per song that they downldd.

They figured she owed $20 Million or so. I don't know what eventually happened to her - or the kids - but it made a lot of people quake a lot.

If it's YOUR computer or DSL connection and YOUR name is on the bill for service, YOU are the responsible party.
