1227711 2011-09-01 07:05:00 Was asked myself if I wanted to do a school run bus run due to a bit of business shrinkage at the moment,a couple of hours morning and afternoon

Due to the remuneration it does not surprise me that it attracts retiree's

Would think the Medical would be not much different to a Pilots medical which is pretty stringent as you age

Have you ever done a school bus run?

If not then quieten down I would suggest.

1227714 2011-09-01 13:10:00 Under no circumstances a 87-year-old person should be allowed to handle a bus load of school children!

That is an affront to the human rights of 87 yo.

Howzat for a politically correct remark

1227715 2011-09-01 20:01:00 A lot of the very elderly become quite insecure. They seldom stand up for what they believe to be right, and will simply do as they are told.

This driver knew he shouldn't be on the road, and told his boss twice. His boss however has used his influence over the driver to put the lives of all of them and other road users at risk... to save himself some bucks and some inconvenience.

The trauma of all this may finish off the old fellow. His boss however needs to get his a## whipped.
If it was the reverse, with the bus breaking down (rather than the driver 'breaking donwn') the boss would have found a spare bus and someone to deliver it to the area. He'd have had to! That leaves reason enough to believe there would also have been a spare driver available. You've got to have plans and people in place for these types of things.

1227716 2011-09-01 22:08:00 The thing with "age discrimination" is that it is equal and fair.

By that I mean we all start off young and then 18 and then 20 and then 65 and then 85 and then 87.

So I don't mind age discrimination, as we are all going to be affected by it at some stage.

Whereas if you talk about sex or race discrimiation, then there is nothing you can do if you are born white or a male or black or a female or brown.

So I still say no one should be allowed to drive a bus at say 65.

If they want to do meals on wheels etc at 87 then that's fine.

20 year olds getting meningical coccus (whatever) do not black out and cross the road.

1227719 2011-09-02 19:20:00 And now the Hubbard's (in their 80's) are in a crash.
I hope they will be OK.

But I am not too comfortable with so many old drivers on the road.
But then again I am not that comfortable with some young drivers on the road.
And I am not that comfortable with me on the road either !
