I think they are doing quite well ! Exactly

The problem with itunes is -well you have to use itunes for movies, as they still (AFAIK) still use DRM, and cant easily ( without conversion) burn and play like a normal DVD.

Some movies also aren't available in NZ, yet are available in the USA Itunes.

1227883 2011-09-01 00:14:00 IIRC Zune lets me buy movies online (int HD), not sure about the DRM part though as I haven't actually tried it out yet :p

Though they do have a rent option, which would use DRM...

1227885 2011-09-01 00:52:00 Look at the up side to this new law, Maybe  some new places may just pop up, and actually allow people to legally pay for at a reasonable price good quality movies / music.

This was on fair go a while back (from memory) when asked the majority of people would quite happily pay a small fee to download good quality legal downloads - But when questioned the spokes person for the recording industry, why this service wasn't available in NZ, it was his attitude -- errrrrrrrr, ummmmm awhhhhhhh oh thats to much work , we would rather fine people. Maybe some one will set that up one day.

Ya think ??

I sent an email to Marbecks the other day, asking why they only sold MP3s on their online store, their answer:
The NZ record companies don't give them anything better.

I for one will never use iTunes for the same reason. They do not have everything available in lossless format, nor do they use non-proprietary formats. And as johcar pointed out, you have to use their software.

1227887 2011-09-01 02:02:00 There will still be people like me who need lots of storage space. I record TV programmes as well as photos home movies to a hard drive. I have hardly ever downloaded copywritten material so the new law will make little difference to me.

Who knows, maybe we will have less times where the web is slowed down, because too many people are using the web downloading illegal files.
