1226990 2011-08-30 06:32:00 Hi John H

Sounds like you need a Digital to Analogue Converter - DAC. See HERE (www.youtube.com). Your DVD player has one built in.

1226991 2011-08-30 06:46:00 Ahh Onkyo amps, I know them well!

You need to plug your base station into the 'out' of whatever your TV comes 'in' on.

For example, if your tv comes in on Video 1, then looking at the diagram above the number 17 it has 'in' on the right hand side and 'out' on the left. You see?

1226992 2011-08-30 22:16:00 Thanks Burnzee, you may well be right. However, I have decided to give up on connecting via the amp, and will rely on my workaround for now. Given other issues I have had in the past with the connection to the amp, I feel this is more reliable! Thanks again. John H (8)

That sounded ominous... I know there are seriously confusing issues with this amp... Like Zone2 for example, but let's not go there.

Regarding the other part of your reply; yes, that is the way it was when I had the ability to do that. As I pointed out in my original post, the TV does not have a RCA AV outlet that will allow me to do that any longer, so I had to find an alternative - all that is available for TV audio out is HDMI or digital. However, the Onkyo manual says that you can map your input source to any of the outputs, and I have mapped Opti1 (digital audio out on the TV) to Video1 (on the amp) where the wireless base station is attached to the out socket. If I use the front panel of the amp (or the remote) to select Video1, voila, there is the TV sound on the speakers connected to the amp. It just doesn't come through to the base stati on. However, I have officially given up on this - given that I get what I want by connecting the base station to the DVD HD Recorder, I am happy. Thanks for your help pine-o-clean.

1226994 2011-08-30 22:36:00 I have a Onkyo AV Receiver TX-SR608. The model number should be on the bottom right of the front panel. Mine came with seperate manuals. Don't worry about Zone2 as you probably won't/don't need it.

1226995 2011-08-30 22:46:00 Well, there you are then - mine is the TX-SR604, and one manual covers the whole range of models I listed in my earlier post. Perhaps I did notice the model number when I got it home and set it up, but never since! Thanks.

I don't worry about Zone2 :D but the amp does! It keeps swapping to Zone2 if I change any settings or even switch the amp on with the remote. Perhaps it is my big thumb hitting both the Power and Zone2 buttons at the same time because they are side by side!

1226996 2011-08-31 00:27:00 Mine has seperate manuals for the different languages, but all for the same model. Yeah I never have any problems with mine going into zone 2 only when I have visitors who muck around with the remote.

1226997 2011-08-31 06:46:00 Zone 2 is a good feature, but yes fiddly, and hard to control. Confused a LOT of my clients. Zone 2 allows you to have separate speakers playing a different (or the same) source in a different area. Basically, its a whole separate amp. pine-o-cleen (2955)
1226998 2011-09-01 03:02:00 I got irritated that I hadn't been able to solve the problem using the amp, so I took Burnzee's advice and bought a DAC. Connected:
1. Opt1 cable to the DAC input,
2. RCA Audio cable to the DAC output,
3. RCA Audio cable to Video1 in
4. Wireless headphone base station to Video 1 out.

It didn't work. So out of sheer frustration, I re-connected 3. and 4. (above) through Video3 in and out, just as an experiment.

Now everything works. I wonder whether all along there was a fault with Video1? Who cares? It just works. Thanks Burnzee.

1226999 2011-09-01 05:40:00 Odd. It's probably a routing issue, but like you say, who cares! It works. pine-o-cleen (2955)
