1227947 2011-09-01 02:02:00 What is the point of deleting a thread when the thread title remains in the list to waste space telling you it's not there any more? Agent_24 (57)
1227948 2011-09-01 02:08:00 I hope you know how tempting it is to delete this thread and leave the thread title... :D Zara Baxter (16260)
1227949 2011-09-01 02:10:00 I suppose it would look rather funny... Agent_24 (57)
1227950 2011-09-01 02:35:00 Zara is going to be a busy lady I suspect :p

The reason for one deletion - 'Against rules - ripping commercial DVD/Blu-Ray" Fair enough,as it is.

There are several places that give away these sorts of programs, and are often posted, as well as commercial programs given away for one day for free.

Thats always surprised me really, these programs that are capable of ripping copy protected DVD's, advertised as such, freely sold with what appears no action by the movie industry -- Oh well.

To be honest, I don't have a sockpuppet-regular-account, had so no idea you folks would see it.

Some people, like me, like the option to backup their DVDs.

I also enjoy making copies of mine so I can play them on my TV without it going nuts because of the macrovision copy protection signals.

However I'm probably going to build a 'Dr. Video MkII (www.jaycar.co.nz)' some day that strips the signals out anyway.

1227953 2011-09-01 03:20:00 What is the point of deleting a thread when the thread title remains in the list to waste space telling you it's not there any more?It means that if you're looking for a thread later, and it's been deleted, then you can see where it went. The alternative is confusion, trying to find something that no longer exists.

vB does offer the option to fully remove a thread, or do a soft-delete - so it's up to the mod who deleted the thread whether the notice appers or not.

1227954 2011-09-01 07:44:00 If members are logged in they can see the title of 'soft deleted' thread and reason (if supplied), otherwise they are invisible. Soft deleted threads are useful as they show why a thread was "deleted" when an explanation is helpful. Most deleted threads are 'hard deleted' (leave no evidence) because they are spam.

Works the same for individually deleted posts in a thread.

I have a 'vanilla' user account I use when I need to see how the other half live. :D

1227956 2011-09-01 09:34:00 Is there really any point in keeping every single thread posted since the forum began in 1998? All of the early threads back then contain only the original post anyway, and not the replies so they are pretty much useless . The threads over ten years ago are also pretty outdated .

I would have thought a new forum would have been a perfect opportunity to get the broom out and clear away old threads and inactive members . :)
