1227681 2011-08-31 09:12:00 How on earth they allowed a 87-year-old person to drive a school bus with all the children onboard? Story here (www.nzherald.co.nz)

What is happening in NZ?

1227682 2011-08-31 09:26:00 Thank god for the quick thinking kids who managed to pull the bus over safely. These would be Westcoast country kids who had some knowledge of driving. Bobh (5192)
1227683 2011-08-31 09:37:00 Its good to know that, I have another 30 or so years of bus driving ahead of me. prefect (6291)
1227684 2011-08-31 09:40:00 Under no circumstances a 87-year-old person should be allowed to handle a bus load of school children! bk T (215)

Nothing wrong with an 87 year old driver, so long as they are appropriately licensed, and medically fit to be driving.

1227686 2011-08-31 09:52:00 Gee remember that 99 year old who drove the wrong way up the Ngauranga Gorge, had a crash and then claimed he was quite a good driver. Twelvevolts (5457)

No way I can put my child onboard a bus under the control of a 87-year-old driver.

Agreed. I don't think he age really comes into it, he obviously knew he shouldn't be driving, however (probably due to his work ethic) he's done it anyway, because his boss told him to.

I don't know... I drive a school minivan at 68yrs. Most of the idiots are young men, and also women picking up their kids from schools. Then there are the ones who should never have had a licence in the first place.

Risking the lives of the school children??

Age counts - wether you like it or not! A responsible person will not take up a job of this nature and most importantly, a responsible boss will not allow an old person of that age behind the wheel. There are a bus load of young lives!
