If I used screened cable between FDD connectors would I be able to use the floppy with a 2m cable, without data problems? As the data transfer rate is low I don't see cable capacity being a problem. | Guest (0) | ||
| 2 | 2004-12-19 01:35:00 | The floppy spec will allow about 80 centimetres (32 inches) maximum. I would suggest that you disconnect the floppy, get a USB repeater cable and buy a $30 USB floppy. I think you might have a lot of trouble getting 2 metres out of a floppy cable. | BIFF (1) | ||

The signal and earth wires alternate in the cable, so screening shouldn't be needed. 8" and 5¼" drives had provision for terminating the cable ... I don't know if 3½" ones do. Results would be best with termination. Why not try it? I wouldn't use an arbitrary 2m cable ... it would be better to use "enough" length. |
