| 27 | 1998-09-01 00:09:00 | The other day I attended a seminar on budgeting. The trainer used a smiley face or a sad face instead of a plus or minus next to the budget figures as he said these smiley/sad faces are less confusing than the traditional +/- in budgets. I thought this was a good idea. The trainer used a Word table for the figures but I'm wondering how I can format an Excel 97 cell so a positive number shows a smiley face to the left of the figure in the same cell, and a negative figure shows a sad face to the left of the figure in the same cell. This might have something to do with conditional formatting in a cell or there may be some simple method that I am overlooking but I cannot see how it can be done. |

You'll have to put the smiley/sad faces in a reference cell somewhere Something along the lines of: =if(A1>0,B1,B2) Where B1 and B2 contain he smiley/sad face May be a shorter way to get there but this will work Capt Jimbo |
