2012-01-14 03:01:00 | I have a regular customer who is looking for a laptop. I have always recommended Asus, but I also acknowledge I have been a bit out of touch regards computer hardware Which brands are to be recommended these days; and which aren't? She is looking for a laptop to just access the net, play Facebook games, emails etc. Nothing too fancy; so I'm looking at around the $1000 or less range, for her. something like this: www.ascent.co.nz or up to this: www.ascent.co.nz

2012-01-15 08:47:00 | I have a Dell Vostro (now obsolete). It only cost $900, I have used it for 2 years with no problems. Good screen and large keyboard. My only criticism is that the sound volume is very low, but is fine through phones or amplifier. Dell say this is because it is a business machine and has a fax modem. An option is to have better sound and no modem. You can order from the factory and have it custom built to your own specs. It came with Windows 7 Pro and XP Sp3 on CD's.

2012-01-17 09:55:00 | I notice that Ascent do not think much of the Asus support; secondly the AMD fitted unit, while cheaper, may not be the best value of the two models. | PENTIUM (426) | |

Ascent, or their customers feedback? Depends who they based that on - the retailer or ASUS NZ repair place? I always found them excellent, going out of their way for me....above and beyond. Techmaster that is - dunno about Ascent. |

2012-01-18 09:31:00 | I have always gone for ACER I have found HP too expensive and COMPAQ are HP now pretty much. Apart from my SP1 issues, every ACER I have had has been great :) Just my opinion. | ollieogg (6593) | |
