| 1253266 | 2012-01-10 04:06:00 | Thought I'd ask this here because I can't find much helpful information anywhere. I'm in the process of creating a Wordpress based website for a non-profit organisation and I'm looking for a NZ based host for it that supports PHP 5 and MySQL 5 as these are required for Wordpress. A quick Google search turned up a lot of potential hosting companies with plans ranging in price from free to $750 a year and long lists of features most of which are very vague, i.e. "99.9% uptime" or "fast support". Also the features offered seem to fairly consistant across the board with the more expensive hosts sometimes offering significantly less storage than the cheaper hosts. Needless to say as I'm pretty much a novice at making websites I'm quite confused so can you tell me if there are any features I should check for and if there are specific hosts you would recommend? Thanks in advance! | gijoel (15469) | ||

Have a look under the web hosting Tab,Pricing, then further down the page all the options you asked for :) |

Web Drive has a sister company Openhost. Web Drive is mainly for resellers, VPS's and Cloud Servers, although you can have a standard site - Windows or Linux there. However, it i not designed for Wordpress. You could do it, but there are some fiddly bits that need to be done regards permissions and so on to allow it, and the way Web Drive is structured at present would make it vulnerable to hacking. Wordpress is targeted often. Openhost has a better environment for CMS's like Wordpress and would be slightly cheaper too, so I recommend hosting it there instead in this case. As I said Openhost is a sister company of Web Drive so you still get great support. As for "uptime", it is time your site is "up" - working and showing on the net. Occasionally hosting companies do maintenace and upgrades on the servers your site sits on - and this can involve the site not showing for a brief period - hence the uptime they mention. |

| 1253269 | 2012-01-12 03:22:00 | I would suggest you start with Hosting Direct: www.hd.net.nz The free doesn't work coz there's no SQL included but $5 a month you can't beat! (Well you probably could, but still). They're a great company, very reliable and friendly :) |

| 1253270 | 2012-01-12 03:54:00 | Currently using Webslice with WordPress, so far so good. Good price, approx $6 a month including 2 SQL dbs. The only downer is that if you are accessing the site via oversea, it can be a bit slow, great for NZ visitors though. http://www.webslice.co.nz/ |
