1228876 2011-09-06 04:45:00 A cynical eye on things may come up with the following assumption:

EQ assessors whose inspections are costing the country in excess of $200,000 per assessment on average may find themselves given less work than those assessors whose inspections conclude there is no EQ related damage to reimburse.

EQ assessors who wish to milk the gravy train to the max will find their continued employment more likely assured if they are finding in the favour of the body that is paying their wages. Those that cost the EQC lots from their assessments may find their contracts are not renewed as readily.

Of course, such behaviour would be filthy, greedy and unethical - to serve ones own needs at the expense of those in need. But there's always some in the crowd who will do so.

I've reached similar conclusions from witnessing the work of ACC assessors as well. Screw the client and keep your commission. Or do what's fair and right, and find your contract expires without renewal.

1228877 2011-09-06 05:08:00 The email said "Your email was deleted without being read" .

I got that message as well yesterday so sent it again and then got a message: "Thank you for contacting the Earthquake Commission (EQC) .
This mail box is for the receipt of additional information to support a contents claim only . "

Our contents claim was sent in March for the February quake in which 80% of the items being claimed for were lost and unrecoverable from a building that has now been demolished . No idea how I am supposed to supply photos of them as we don't have any, nor can we obtain quotes as the shops the main items were bought from no longer exist .

We finally had a full assessment for the house last Friday . I didn't ask to see the report as they said we would be sent one but they were very thorough and noticed damage in a couple of rooms that I hadn't pointed out . Will have to wait and see what the report says but I was happy with the guys that inspected our place .

Another pair did a very good job of my mother-in-law's house so I'm hoping we will be lucky for a third time when another family member's house gets inspected .

I have bought this up with ECQ and I know others that have got the same problem and the reply seems to be, if you are unable to get a quote from a shop, then you do your own research on the internet and supply links to those items clearing showing the brand, model/version and cost .

We know someone who has a heap of various chinaware, ornaments etc . She has told ECQ repeatedly that some of the stuff ended up in the rubbish as part of the early clean up and that much of the stuff she cannot research as she frankly does not know what it is . She is very much a collector of ornaments, see's something nice, just buys it .

ECQ's response to her has been that they will not process any part of her claim until she has provided them with quotes or links and pictures of every single . End of story . They will not process what they can and argue about the rest later, it is the whole claim or nothing attitude .

At this rate, she will probably end up revising her claim to not having any of that stuff on the claim just so they will process the rest of the claim .

Yet, in the early days, after Sept when a lot of people threw out stuff covered in silt and sewage with out any pictures to support there claims, some have been paid no further questions asked but those that got there claims in later and appear to have been processed after the Feb shake are being told that they must keep everything, have pictures and quotes or they will not be processed .

The goal posts have moved and no doubt will move further now that they have run out of money and they govt is paying the bill .
