169 1998-09-01 14:13:00 I have an intermittant fault that appears at startup once my windows wallpaper has loaded but before my taskbar appears on screen. What happens is that as the taskbar and icons start to appear onscreen little horizontal lines of pixels start to appear at random on the screen that are white or blue. Once windows 98 is fully loaded, with varying amounts of these little lines stuck on the screen, if I move the pointer it leaves a trail behind it of the odd patches of pixels. If I launch any programs they look fine (i.e. no odd pixels in the programs launch window ) but if I minimize the window it leaves behind masses of these lines of pixels. As you can imagine my screen becomes totally full of these stray locked pixels until the screen becomes unrecognisable. If I let this go on to long I find I am unable to restart using Ctrl/Alt/Del and have to use the reset button on the Box with the brain in it.I have used all of Win 98's system analysers (except Dr Watson as I cannot figuire out if it can be made to work at startup before the rest of Windows loads) and with my limited knowledge can find no evidence of incorrect video drivers or hardware conflicts etc. Can you give me any idea how I might be able to solve this problem? If you need me to supply more detailed information about my system/software cofiguiration please send an E-mail requesting specific information to grievous@world-net.co.nz
Thanks very much.

170 2005-06-09 08:29:00 This may be a monitor problem, as we (on our win95 system, years ago) had our picture quality degrade almost overnight, but not to the degree of your problems. Or problem was bent and shorting pins on the VGA plug which made some very weird screen artefacts. splatman41 (68)

173 2005-06-09 10:07:00 I know ;)

But what you don't know is that it is definitely not a monitor problem, not that it matters a toss after 7 years, but you might as well know.

Saves you posting again in another 7 years.
