I wish to use my computer to time competitors at a sporting function. I would like to record (and printout) the time each competitor crosses the finish line by using a single keypress (say, by pressing a particular function key) to obtain the computer clock time.

I have written a little routine in BASIC and have got as far as getting the time displayed on the screen when my F12 function key is pressed, shelling out to MSDOS?s time command. But MSDOS then expects me to 'Enter new time'. I don?t need that function. How can I stop it from asking that question? I also don?t need the accuracy of hundredths of a second. How can I suppress this extraneous info?

Any ideas on the above problems or do you have any thoughts on a better method of getting a time printout from the computer clock?
