616 1998-10-18 07:01:00 I am feeling a little guilty...A friend was happily using Dos to run Dos programs with 2 Panasonic printers - a Laser (I believe one of the few models that can print in Dos, and a Dot Matrix connected by a switch box. He has a 486 DX4 100 (which had been upgraded from a 286), and I talked him into buying a new hard drive (the old one was 40mb), and running windows 95. This he did. Problem is, now, after loading the windows drivers for both printers, he can print windows software to both, but not Dos programs. There was a dos driver for the laser, but with the Dot Matrix, the manual says just to choose Epsom FX86 mode - or similar.
I think the problem is that we could only copy the dos programs across to the new hard drive, as the original disks had long since been loaned to friends and lost. Whilst the programs seem to work, they won't print. In the print setup (for example First Choice), it seems that the Epsom FX printer is selected in the options, but nothing is happening.
It makes no difference if we remove the switch box and attach either printer directly.
