| 772 | 1998-11-05 11:15:00 | For the past few months I was getting an intermittent error messsage when first booting (Pentium 166 about 1 year old) -' CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded - CMOS battery failed ' Pressed F1 to load defaults then everything normal. As it was intermittent I just lived with it. A few weeks ago it became permanent, and I lost my time. Have since tried 2 new CMOS batteries. The fault is mainly still there - about 90 percent of the time. Have given the old machine a good clean out. Dealer is no help. Is it just a faulty motherboard/battery connection, or something more sinister? |
