1254994 2012-01-19 08:41:00 Hey guys,

I've narrowed a search for a new, inexpensive laptop down to two: An ASUS and an ACER, the links are below.

ACER:
www.dicksmith.co.nz

ASUS:
www.pbtech.co.nz

Could you please advise on which would be the better option? Price is also a consideration, with the ASUS being around $80 more.

Thanks!

1254995 2012-01-19 09:25:00 I would personally go for the Asus one. The processor is a little slower, but typically the celeron on the acer one will be quite sluggish anyway. Unfortunately some of the specs are missing from the list for the acer, so it's difficult to make a proper determination though. DaveBritton (7395)

In a nut shell, you are going to get what you pay for. $499 isnt going to buy you a great deal, but +1 for the ASUS also. I dont like AMD, but I hate Celerons even more. Iantech (16386)
1254997 2012-01-19 20:11:00 Of course the Asus is $75 dearer so are you willing to pay the extra $75 for the (slight) difference. Personally I wouldn't touch a Celeron. Tukapa (62)
1254998 2012-01-19 23:18:00 The Asus seems to have a better GPU Drenwick (13216)
1254999 2012-01-20 02:20:00 Hahahahaha Celeron. Good joke. Yeah the GPU in the Asus will be a million times better than whatever is in the Acer, probably a GMA 950 or something pathetic like that. Also Asus tends to be really good quality. icow (15313)
1255000 2012-01-20 03:07:00 2 things:

1255001 2012-01-20 03:34:00 Clock speed hasn't been the main factor since the days of Pentium 4. My old laptop was a 1.7GHz i7 quad core, didn't make it slow. I'm guessing thats a Celeron B800 which is dual core. (Not that i'm saying you should buy a Celeron) Alex B (15479)
1255002 2012-01-20 04:14:00 I would go for the ASUS. even the fact that it has double the RAM of the ACER, that alone should make it a lot faster, and as everyone else has said, the celeron isn't exactly attractive. skeptile2 (16539)
1255003 2012-01-20 04:55:00 I'll let you know next week what the Asus is like as I've ordered one today for a customer. CYaBro (73)
