1254952 2012-01-19 04:47:00 Okay so I'm looking at getting a new desktop and I'm budgeting around $1500 (preferably lower if possible) .

I've never built a PC from scratch before (I could probably do it using guides etc) but if possible I'd like a site where I could buy all the parts (and have them price match from pricespy!) and have them build it for me .

Below I've listed the parts I've got in mindwith prices and links . All parts are available on Playtech and I'd prefer to buy it from there, Computer Lounge or Ascent unless someone could recommend another site with excellent service?

Thoughts?

1254953 2012-01-19 04:49:00 I doubt you will find someone who can build and price match Pricespy gary67 (56)

Playtech have pricematched for me before on request and can build the system for $49 which isn't too bad I don't think.

Also thinking of changing the Graphics card to and Radeon HD 6770 (www.playtech.co.nz) saving $100 and getting a soundcard as well for 5.1 surround.

1254955 2012-01-19 05:42:00 What are you using this pc for? 6770 + 2600 = bottlenecking. 560Ti is good. Unless your video rendering and encoding just get a 2500k (or any other hyperthreading heavy work). Cheaper and performs basically the same. icow (15313)

Hoping to play battlefield 3 and other games rather than using my PS3.

Might look at getting one of these three.

Mates brother has offered to give me a hand to build it too which means I can shop around for prices, but again I would prefer to buy from computer lounge or similar.

1254957 2012-01-19 05:59:00 You haven't included an OS, unless you have one that will add around $160 to the price for the oem windows 7 64 bit
Agree that an i7 is wasted on gaming, any i5 is great, the 2500k if you feel up to overclocking, plain 2500 if not.

For gaming get the fastest graphics card you can afford. Other than that your list looks good.

Already got windows 7 family pack so have 1 license left which covers that.

So say I get a Intel Core i5 2500K Sandy Bridge 3.30GHz will I have to buy a CPU fan to go with it? What graphics card would you recommend for around $250? Also is there any difference between this www.computerlounge.co.nz and www.computerlounge.co.nz ??

1254959 2012-01-19 06:22:00 Main difference is USB3.0 support which is nice, but up to you if it's important.

the 2500k comes with a factory cooler which is fine for stock speeds, but the only point in buying a "K" version is to overclock which does mean buying a better cooler at some point.
Maybe just save some cash and buy the i5 2500 instead, it won't bottleneck any current games and is pretty awesome even stuck at stock speeds.

At $250 you're in the 550Ti or 6770 range which is good but a little low end if you want to game in high def with the eye candy on, check out the chart on this page www.tomshardware.com and go as high as you can, even better go to the first page and read the whole article, just ignore the overseas prices.

Looks like only $20 between the 2500 and the 2500k so might just look to the 2500k for possible future overclocking. Looking at the 550Ti at the moment, seems good and should keep me under $1400 all up.

1254961 2012-01-19 06:53:00 6850 is what you could get for $250-ish. I'd personally drop the CPU down to even an i3 or look at AMD quad cores and up the gfx to the 560ti. icow (15313)
