2012-01-16 08:44:00 | Hi all, I have spent a couple of days now trying to find a fix to get SP1 to install. I have downloaded hotfixes, a 300+ meg file that was suppose to fix it. Ive stopped and started services, now I am ready to smash this laptop to bits with frustration. I have also tried a fix via the Dos prompt (running as administrator) it made no difference. Does anyone know how I can get this damn thing installed I'm sick of starting up every time and it telling me to install to only fail. Im running Window7 64bit. Many thanks for any/all replies. the error code I am getting is 80073701 Regards Katy:badpc:

2012-01-16 09:36:00 | Which version of Win 7 do you have? Do you have win 7 64 the N version? The reason I ask is because I have the N version and I also get an error code when trying to download and install the Win Media Player for Win 7 64 bit even though it says it's going to install but never does.

2012-01-16 09:52:00 | All I know is that its Windows 7 Home Premium, my laptop came with it preinstalled. I didn't have a problem with the SP1 on my computers that upgraded to Win7. There are as many "fixes" as there are people who are having this problem :( it seems. | ollieogg (6593) | |
2012-01-16 09:56:00 | Navigate to c:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log Locate the update log , look to see what the missing assembly is (which is what that error code indicates) Either that or post the log here if it no to long :)

2012-01-16 10:22:00 | Run the SFC /SCANNOW command. This will check and repair if necessary any critical Windows system files. Click on Start/All programs/Accessories then Right click on Command Prompt option and select 'Run as administrator'. At the command prompt enter: SFC /SCANNOW This is what I tried and it failed as above post :(
