1254360 2012-01-15 20:37:00 Yes it is, WoW lets you chose the sound device in the settings as do many other programs (but not all).
I use a USB headset for Vent while WoWs game sound is coming out the PC speakers regularly.

You set whichever you prefer as the default sound device in the audio properties of windows, and select the other in the program settings of the particular software you are using if it has the option.
Windows will happily have multiple sound devices but not everything lets you change which one you use. You can even for example use the USB heaset's mic in vent at the same time as having it output to the speakers (I do this for raiding, it's easier on my ears).

1254361 2012-01-15 20:38:00 Yep you can do that, all depends on the setup options in your Audio.

Mine has Via HD and you have the optios to disable the speakers if the head phones are plugged in, or have both going.

1254362 2012-01-15 20:45:00 Well true, you could use the Realtek / or Via control panel thing.. I dont tho, since the ASUS audio drivers are crap. The Win7 drivers are better and louder. One reason I didnt install the ASUS drivers Speedy Gonzales (78)
1254363 2012-01-15 21:54:00 Yeah, I can use the mic on my headset simultaneously with my PC speakers but sound won't come out from both devices at the same time. MarcusTso (16678)
1254364 2012-01-15 22:11:00 Not the same sound no, they are two seperate audio devices. But different sound from different sources will.
Why would you want sound coming out of both from the same source anyway?

For my example with Vent, you select the headphones as the output device in Vents setting and set Wow to use the Speakers or set them as default in windows audio settings.

What happens when you plug the headphones in normally is they take over as the default device automatically, but if you right click the little speaker icon on you task bar, go into the audio properties, and select the normal speakers as the default device while the headphones are connected it should remember this setting and leave the speakers as default when you plug the headphones in and out. After that you just configure any software you want to use the headphones with to use that device.

But no, you can't have one program output sound to both the line out and a USB headset at the same time.
