1229171 2011-09-06 22:54:00 For a little while now I have been planning on setting up an IRC channel for PressF1.
I finally got around to setting it up properly after I received permission from Zara.
Here are the details for the room.
If you have an irc client the server is irc.epicirc.com port 6667 Channel is #PressF1
irc://irc.epicirc.com:6667/PressF1
If you do not have an irc client the server admin has installed a web based client, the link to join is:
webchat.epicirc.com:9070

This link will open the client and also give you a random nickname that you can change.

Common IRC Commands: (Do not enter the brackets)
To change your nickname type /nick (new nick)
To register your nickname once you have changed from the generated nick type /msg nickserv register (password) (email), you will then receive an automatic email from the server with a line of code to type in to confirm the registration of your nickname.
When you join and change to your nickname every time you need to confirm you own it by typing /msg nickserv identify (password)
To join another room type /join (#channel) Note: the # must be included in channel names.

Those are the commands that you will need for now, if you have any questions you can ask them in channel and if I am around I will try to answer them or someone else may be able to help or you can join #help.

Disclaimer: The PressF1 IRC channel is not affiliated to PC World NZ in any way, The PressF1 name is being used with permission.

1229172 2011-09-06 23:39:00 excuse my ignorance but what is the point of this, another chat type forum thing????/what is an IRC channel? GameJunkie (72)
1229173 2011-09-06 23:41:00 Its where a lot of people can chat in the one place, at the same time (instead of something like this). You have to reply to what someone has said. In IRC. whoever is in the same channel will see what whoever types (in real time). Speedy Gonzales (78)
1229174 2011-09-06 23:42:00 oh right GameJunkie (72)
1229175 2011-09-06 23:44:00 There is also private messaging too nedkelly (9059)
1229176 2011-09-06 23:46:00 You can also send files (it may not be that fast tho) in IRC. To others Speedy Gonzales (78)
1229177 2011-09-07 00:00:00 Years ago, some IRC servers were used for files. It was massive. Until most of the servers were hit with DDOS attacks. And some / most of them were hit so hard, it took ages for them to recover Speedy Gonzales (78)
1229178 2011-09-07 00:09:00 Yeah most servers have dcc disabled now, which is why HFS is so awesome. nedkelly (9059)
