1254478 2012-01-25 04:17:00 Umm, did you install IE9 RC1 at all, or any version (besides IE9 final)? It looks like that original error may mean, IE9 RC1 was installed sometime. It needs to be removed first before SP1, if its installed Speedy Gonzales (78)
1254479 2012-01-25 04:49:00 Gidday Speedy, I don't use IE at all. Can you tell me how I go about finding and deleting it please? ollieogg (6593)
1254480 2012-01-25 04:50:00 A clean install of the Win 7 OS is the very last thing that our local tech shop is going to be doing, after trying all else that failed. Our #1 computer on the network at SeniorNet has this same prob. Hopefully that might fix it! It just rips your shorts that Microsoft can make something so dammed hard to do as installing a service pack for its own OS!

1254481 2012-01-25 04:55:00 Hmm ok. Dont know if this link is here already, but if it isnt, it may help (answers.microsoft.com) IE9 MAYBE in programs and features. if someone did install it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1254482 2012-01-25 05:04:00 It just rips your shorts that Microsoft can make something so dammed hard to do as installing a service pack for its own OS! Not really -- Let me try to explain -- There is a set of requirements that have to be met by the service packs when doing the Upgrades.
Now while MS do look at a lot of scenarios, they cant program in every single possibility. So what happens is something on the current Operating system, does not meet the requirements, or is giving a negative result / answer and dis-allowing the SP to install. If MS programed the SP's to install regardless of errors, you may find the PC wont boot afterwards, or something else goes wrong.

That's the problem, finding out exactly what is stopping it. In the case of an older OS, like the ones at senior net ( pre Sp1) , that will have existing programs, setting changes & maybe even restrictions etc, something is stopping it.

The hard part is finding whats the cause, bit like "looking for a needle in a haystack",once the cause is found the fix is generally easy.

1254483 2012-01-25 05:39:00 I have tried to disable IE9 and discovered I have it twice? I have tried to remove each one separately but it won't do it. I just keep getting this error.

I have added an attachment of a print screen.

1254484 2012-01-25 06:00:00 Some sites say to run this (if you havent yet) (support.microsoft.com). Thats if it installs. Then reboot. Then see what happens. Make sure you get the right one Speedy Gonzales (78)

Ok I ran that and it did whatever it was suppose to do, I rebooted and tried to install the standalone installation of SP1 and if failed again :(

I am now going to try deleting Eset and see if that's a problem as well...I willl also try the manual way to get rid of IE9.. ever the optimist that this will work.:mad:

1254486 2012-01-25 07:07:00 Having two copies, or listed two copies of IE 9 wont be helping one little bit.

Two things I would try, go to programs & features, top left, View installed updates, IE9 will be there in the updates - try uninstalling it.

Secondly - Have a read of this (support.microsoft.com)
