linw, thanks for your reply.

1255319 2012-01-22 20:11:00 If you want to use the external to show your data on TV, you cannot use NTFS. Most if not all TV's requires FAT32. For this reason, my two externals I have formatted to Fat32 before using them.

In that case yeah, FAT32 will have to do. Fortunately my video camera supports SDXC so I was able to format its memory card as exFAT :D

1255320 2012-01-23 00:02:00 Just make sure no files are over 4 GB in size. Since, it (probably) wont copy to the external hdd (if its formatted in FAT32). Bryan, what do you mean NTFS cant show on TV?? That maybe the case, if you were connecting it with something like USB to a TV. It (probably) doesnt apply if you use it from a computer. 1255321 2012-01-23 01:16:00 Yes Speedy, you are right about USB. If the external is to be connected via USB to the TV, the external should be FAT32. I'm not certain about connecting the computer to the TV, I feel that if the external is connected to the TV, then an external connected to the computer and asked to use the TV screen as a monitor then I guess that an NTFS external would work.

Sorry about reading between the lines and thinking as I did that the external was to be connected directly to the TV via USB.

Thanks Speedy, hopefully the cameras' around the place don't have that size card, but will check files first.

Made one error burning to dvd with FCH, it finalzses after each directory, so a 4.7gb with only 25mb burnt to it is a bl**dy waste.

There must be a better free burner software.

1255323 2012-01-24 05:56:00 I maintain a large FAT32 partition (50GB) on my data drive to run any software that is not compatible with NTFS and store related files. Progress is all very well, but provision must be made to maintain legacy data and programs, some of which are DOS based and somewhat inflexible in their habits.

Cheers
