| 889 | 1998-11-29 09:15:00 | I have a Pentium 133 with a 1.2GB H/D, 32MB RAM, S3 Virge 2MB video card, and 256kb internal cache. I want to upgrade the CPU in it - specifically so that it plays the latest games better. For example, I get a very choppy playback when playing Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator and the frame rate simply isn't high enough for smooth flight(although the box says a Pentium 133 is the minimum). According to the documentation I have on the computer, the CPU is upgradeable to 200Mhz (Zif socket 7). My question is, what is the best bet in terms of performance and cost for a CPU upgrade for better games performance? Should I be looking at an Intel MMX overdrive kit, or should I (or can I) simply drop in a Pentium 233MMX? Alternatively, should I be looking at extra RAM or video RAM or both with a new CPU? Does anyone have any experience with such an upgrade? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks Darryl Lennane |
