The other day my daughter was playing Age of Empires when it hung. She tryed CTRL-ALT-DEL. Didn't work. Reset PC. Scandisk was activated because Windows was not shut down properly. Detected invaild long file name, unable to fix. Data error while reading cluster 163577858. Scandisk will try to continue past this error. Run surface scan. Data error. FAT entry cluster 4223415803. This error prevents scandisk from fixing this drive. Backing up system files. Microsoft registry checker. Restoring system files. etc etc. Couldn't get scandisk to stop. Couldn't get windows into safe mode, as no message came up stating windows starting. Every time I rebooted the PC scandisk would start. In desperation I ran FDISK and reformatted the hard drive. Appears to be some bad sectors right at the end of the drive. Can't install Windows. Starts to install and comes up with two error messages saying setup caused an error in krnl386.exe? and setup caused an error in user.exe. System is a Pentium-S 120MHz with a 1.2GB HDD and 16MB RAM. Is the Hard drice useless? Any suggestions. Thanks. |
