This is true, but you may have a problem with not being able to use your mouse or cdrom if you restart in DOS mode. With Win95/98 there is a file called 'Exit To Dos.pif' which resides in your c:\windows folder. If you edit this file by right clicking, selecting properties - program tab - advanced button you can specify a particular DOS environment by amending the config.sys & autoexec.bat sections. Now whenever you select Start-Shutdown-Restart in MSDOS mode you will have the DOS drivers loaded as per the Exit To Dos.pif file. This will enable you to load all the real mode drivers you need plus has the added benefit of specifying a particular memory environment for games etc. This will save you having to load a specific PIF file for most of your DOS only programs or sacrificing Windows performance by amending the c:\autoexec.bat or c:\config.sys files. |
