1317 1999-03-03 01:26:00 I run a school network of 18 PCs in a lab and abot 25 other PCs around the school. I recently upgraded the operating system from Win3.11 to Win95. All machines are running Office97 from the NT4 server which has service pack 4 loaded. Lately I have been getting the message 'The device or Network connection that the shortcut 'fastfind.lnk' rferes to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available and then try again.' The message appears on the last three or four PCs in the lab to try to log on which is why it sounds like some kind of network overload.
The network follows the 5-4-3 rule and the problem never occured before upgrading to Win95 and service pack 4 for NT. The computers in the lab are mostly 486s but even the pentiums have this problem if they are last to try to log on. I run TCP/IP and have done for a while before this problem occured.
HELP! Its really frustrating trying to run a class when the kids have to work in threes and never know which computers are going to log on.
